Maryland Beats Rutgers 4-0 in Field Hockey
COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Freshman midfielder Keli Smith (Selinsgrove, Pa.) scored two goals, leading the fifth-ranked University of Maryland field hockey team to a 4-0 victory over No. 14 Rutgers at the Astroturf Facility tonight. The Terps raised their record to 13-1 while Rutgers fell to 10-3. Goals by Smith and senior forward Nadine Bennett (Chegutu, Zimbabwe) gave Maryland a 2-0 halftime advantage. Smith and freshman back Marloes Platzek (Delft, The Netherlands) added goals in the second half.
Redshirt freshman goalie Zoe Ehrlich (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) record her first complete game shutout, making a critical save on a Rutgers' penalty corner in the first half. It was her second start in goal this season. The Terps next play at Temple on Sunday at 1:00 P.M.
