COLLEGE PARK, Md. - All-American senior captain Susie Rowe scored four goals as the No. 1 Maryland field hockey team cruised to a 10-1 win over Northwestern on the second day of the Terrapin Invitational at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex on Sunday. Sophomore All-American Katie O'Donnell broke the school record for assists in a game, handing out six in the contest.

Susie Rowe's (London, England/Colfe's School) first goal came less than five minutes into the game on a penalty corner. All four of her goals were off penalty corners, while Katie O'Donnell (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) also assisted on each of her goals. Junior Alexis Pappas (Mount Joy, Pa./Donegal) was credited with an assist, as well, on three of Rowe's tallies, while sophomore Alicia Morawski (Gross Point, Mich./Grosse Point South) posted her first-career point on Rowe's final score in the 52nd minute.

Bouncing back from its first loss of the season, Maryland (5-1) gave Northwestern (3-4) no chance in the game, as the Terrapins scored six times in the first half alone. The Terps went up 3-0 just 13 minutes into the game, with goals from Rowe, junior Nicole Muracco (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) and sophomore Meghan Dean (Marathon, N.Y./Marathon Central).

The Wildcats' only goal was in the 15th minute, as Elizabeth Dobbs, who was at the edge of the scoring circle, deflected Sarah Marcincin's long midfield pass high into the air and over Maryland Alicia Grater's (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyerstown Area) head and into the back of the net making the score 3-1.

However, Northwestern could not stop the Terps and had no answers for their three remaining goals in the period. The Terrapins wiped away any hopes of a comeback, scoring four more times in the second half to come away with a 10-1 decision. The 10 goals are the most scored by the Terps since a 10-0 landside over Rutgers in 2001.

Muracco finished the game with two goals, while senior Danielle Keeley (Elkton, Md./North East) scored her first goal of the season. Sophomore Mary Reilly (Newark, Del./Archmere Academy) knocked in her first-career goal on a pass from O'Donnell on a fastbreak.

The Terps had 34 shots, limiting the Wildcats to five in the game. Maryland also outcornered Northwestern, 14-3, scoring on five of those opportunities overall.

In the early game of the Terrapin Invitational, unranked Delaware (0-5) went up 1-0 in the first half against No. 7 Syracuse (6-0). But after scoring in the 39th minute on a goal by Shelby Schraden, the Orange opened the flood gates, tallying five unanswered goals to cruise to the win.

The Terrapins are back in action on Wednesday, September 17, hosting local rival and No. 14 American at 3 p.m. Admission to the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex is free.
