No. 2 Maryland Defeats No. 6 Old Dominion, 2-0, In Field Hockey

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Sophomore Kristy Palchinsky (Leonardtown, Md.) scored a career-high tying two goals and sophomore Ashley Hohnstine (Oak Hill, Va.) recorded a career-high 10 saves to lead No. 2 Maryland to a 2-0 victory over No. 6 Old Dominion at the Artificial Turf facility here Sunday. The victory avenged an early season victory by the Monarchs who defeated the Terps, 5-3, on Sept. 6. The win also extended the Terps' winning streak to 14 which is one shy of the school record.

Maryland improves to 16-1 while Old Dominion falls to 11-6. The Terps are ranked No. 2 and the Monarchs No. 6 in the latest National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll.

Palchinsky scored one goal in each half and both were scored directly on penalty corners. Her first came with 13:26 remaining in the first half and her second came with 3:07 remaining in the game. Sophomore Autumn Welsh (Macungie, Pa.) and junior Rachel Hiskins (Victoria, Australia) recorded assists on both goals. It marked the second time this season that Palchinsky had scored two goals in a single game and upped her season total to a career-high eight.

Hohnstine was spectacular during the game in recording 10 saves. She had five in each half and thwarted Old Dominion on seven penalty corners during the game. It was her second solo shutout of the season.

Old Dominion's Mary Beth Freeman recorded six saves in the goal for the Monarchs. The Terps' defense held Old Dominion scoreless for only the third time this season.

Maryland outshot Old Dominon, 15-11, and held a 9-7 advantage in penalty corners.
