COLLEGE PARK, Md. -Sophomore midfielder Carla Tagliente (Cortland, N.Y.) and sophomore back Molly Kauffman (West Lawn, Pa.) each scored a goal and added an assist, leading No. 12 Maryland (6-1) to a 3-0 win over Massachusetts (4-4) in the championship game of the third annual Terrapin Invitational today.
After a scoreless first half, Tagliente, Kauffman and freshman midfielder Megan Kelly (Gaithersburg, Md.) all scored within a span of 10:50 in the second half to secure the victory. Senior midfielder Jen Pratt (Greene, N.Y.) added a pair of assists while sophomore goalies Angela Platt (Coleraine, Northern Ireland) and Zoe Ehrlich (Morristown, Md.) recorded their third shared shutout of the season.
With the win, Maryland head coach Missy Meharg sets the record for the most coaching victories by a head coach during their career at Maryland. Meharg, who has been the Terps' head coach since 1988, now has a career record of 154-62-9. She surpasses former coach Sue Tyler, who led the Terps to a 153-86-27 record from 1974-87 and held the previous record for most coaching victories at Maryland.
"This record is a tribute to all the great athletes who have been here," said Meharg. "I'm just so proud that I have had the honor to work with all of these great players."
Maryland's next game is against No. 15 Delaware on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
