Maryland Head Coach Missy Meharg Quotes

On Penn State's defense: "I give them a lot of credit, they were one of the strongest defensive units we've seen all year, certainly. If you are going to dribble first, you are going into a big wall. The Big Ten plays a very strong brand of hockey."

On Maryland's penalty corner execution: "We had a chance to get back into it after the time out [with 20 minutes remaining]. Our penalty corner execution was not up to where it has been. Disappointing for the women I'm sure because that has been our bread and butter. We've been such a high performing team with penalty corners, you just think they're going to go."

On looking forward to next season: "The very big positive is that there is a tremendous amount of character, some great hockey players, and women who have experienced being in a championship situation returning to this team. They know what we stand for and are willing to work hard."

Penn State Senior Mallory Weisen:

On the upset: "This has been one of our goals ever since we ended the season last year. We just kept keeping that in mind, keeping that in mind through all the ups and downs during the season. We want to get to the final four and this is just an unreal feeling that we finally made it happen."

Penn State Head Coach Charlene Morrett:

On the game plan against Maryland: "I felt it was real important for us to get pressure on the ball against Maryland. They just do a great job of possessing the ball. If we could pick moments to get pressure on the ball and force turnovers and then attack and transition, then we would be in good shape."

On the season: "There are very few times when we were outplayed this season. The second part of the season in October going into November, the level of intensity, the level of play, the level of skill, the level of determination, just continued to take on a higher level with each game we played."

Penn State Senior Kiersten Wood:

On the upset: "Maryland is a tough team to beat especially at home and I think we had nothing to lose today and put it all out on the line. Our team is just very motivated. It means the world to us. We had an up-and-down season but we worked hard to get here and I think we showed it today."
