COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland field hockey team (14-1, 4-0 ACC), ranked No. 2 in the latest Kookaburra / NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll, beat Delaware 7-2 Sunday afternoon in College Park. Senior Katie O'Donnell broke Maryland's career goals record with two scores in the game.
O'Donnell already has Maryland's career points and assists records, but her 85th and 86th career goals gave her the scoring record as well. Former Terrapin Nicole Muracco set the record last year with 85.
McEvoy opened up a three-goal scoring spree 10 minutes in off of a pass from Buckley on a corner setup. 45 seconds later, Turner scored off of an assist from O'Donnell. A minute later, O'Donnell scored her first to give the Terps a 3-0 lead.
Delaware's Kasey Prettyman scored off of a corner at the 17 minute mark to put the Blue Hens on the board. Frazer scored her first on a shot behind her back off of a rebounded shot on a corner setup with three minutes remaining in the half. Delaware's Michelle Drummonds scored the Blue Hen's final goal on a corner just before halftime. Maryland held a 4-2 lead at the break.
O'Donnell scored her record-breaker five minutes into the second period. Frazer's second came with 12 minutes remaining and Buckley finalized the score at 7-2 off of pass from McEvoy with nine minutes left in the game.
Freshman Natalie Hunter started in goal and notched three saves. The Terrapins outshot the Blue Hens 36-7 and held the penalty corner advantage 14-5. Delaware goalkeeper Noelle Diana had 22 saves in the game and Drummonds added three defensive saves.
