PRINCETON, N.J. - After a tied first half, the No. 1 Maryland field hockey team scored three second-half goals to cruise to a 4-1 victory at Princeton on Tuesday night. Freshman Nicole Muracco scored half the team's goals to lead the Terps to victory.

The Terrapins (13-1) looked to bounce back from a 2-0 setback to Duke over the weekend heading into the match. Princeton (6-5) scored early with a backhanded blast in front of the net from Tina Bortz, less than five minutes into the game.

Maryland almost had an answer for the upset-minded Tigers. On one of their six first-half penalty corners, the Terps' Susie Rowe (London, England) sent a well-placed shot towards the cage, squeaking the ball passed PU goalkeeper Allison Nemeth. However, Sarah Reinprecht stopped the ball on the line for one of her two defensive saves, protecting Princeton's 1-0 lead.

It looked as if Princeton would keep their lead heading into the halftime break. As the final ticks of the half wound down, Maryland drew a penalty corner. Nicole Muracco (Sewell, N.J.) then deflected classmate's Ameliet Rischen's (Rotterdam, Netherlands) shot through the goalie's legs to even the score with no time remaining.

Muracco scored just 3 minutes and 44 seconds into the second half, giving Maryland a 2-1 advantage. The goal would eventually stand as the game winner.

Rowe tallied her first goal of the contest in the 43rd minute on a penalty corner, while redshirt sophomore Kim Ziegler (Kingsville, Md.) rounded out the scoring in the 62nd minute with an unassisted goal.

Maryland has won the last seven meetings between the teams and leads the all-time series, 11-4-1.

Tonight's game will be televised on a tape delayed basis on CSTV on Sunday, Oct. 15 at 2 p.m. Check local cable and satellite listings for more information.

The Terps return to action this Saturday, Oct. 14 at No. 3 Old Dominion. Maryland won the first meeting between the teams, 1-0, in College Park. The team then closes out the weekend against Albany at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex on Sunday, Oct. 15 at 1 p.m.
