COLLEGE PARK, Md. –  Preseason ACC Player of the Year Alyssa Thomas scored 21 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to help No. 8 Maryland stop Drexel 69-63 on Monday night at Comcast Center.

Thomas picked up her fifth straight double-double in Tuesday's game. Freshman Shatori Walker-Kimbrough added 10 of her 12 points for Maryland (5-1) after halftime to help the Terrapins halt a strong second-half effort from the Dragons (2-3). Redshirt sophomore Brene Moseley added five of her eight points in the final two minutes to help the Terps assure themselves of a three-game win streak.

Alexis Smith scored 19 points and Sarah Curran added 16 points for Drexel, both career highs for the pair of freshmen.

“I thought Drexel was terrific tonight,” head coach Brenda Frese said. “I thought they came in and played with a lot of confidence. We definitely saw things that we can learn from to improve and get better.”

The Dragons, who won the WNIT last year, hit seven of 12 three-pointers in the second half to claw back into the game, but Maryland made defensive stops, including a monster block by Thomas and a few shot clock violations to end Drexel’s effort.

Down 34-18 before halftime, the Dragons cut Maryland's lead to seven three times early in the second half.

Thomas answered with a leaning jumper off the glass, and after Smith's running layup cut it to 62-59, Moseley hit an outside jumper, and Thomas and Moseley each sank a pair of free throws to stretch it back to 68-59 with just more than a minute remaining.

The Terrapins went 5-for-6 from the line down the stretch to seal the victory.

Maryland won the battle inside, 38-18, and had 21 second chance points to Drexel’s eight.

Redshirt junior Laurin Mincy and Thomas were two of 50 players in the country named to the Naismith Early Season Watch List Monday. This is the third straight year Thomas has made the list and second for Mincy.

Next, the Maryland will head to Puerto Rico for the San Juan Shootout over the weekend. The Terps will take on Texas Southern (3-2) Friday at 3:30 p.m. ET and Ohio University (3-1) Saturday at 1 p.m. ET. Both games can be heard on umterps.com and live updates will be available https://twitter.com/umdwbb. Live stats will not be available.

After their trip to San Juan, the Terrapins will host Ohio State Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. For tickets, log on to umterps.com or call 1-800-IM-A-TERP.
