ROSEMONT, Ill. – The University of Maryland women's soccer team was picked to finish third in the Big Ten, as the conference released its annual preseason coaches' poll and Players to Watch list on Wednesday.

Penn State, which has won the last 15 of the last 16 Big Ten titles, was picked to finish first, followed by Wisconsin and the Terrapins. Nebraska, the defending Big Ten champion, and Michigan, which advanced to the Elite Eight in the 2013 NCAA tournament, round out the top five.

Additionally, senior Cory Ryan and juniors Aubrey Baker and Rachelle Beanlands were selected as Players to Watch by the conference office.

Maryland opens the regular season on Friday, Aug. 22, against 2013 NCAA champion UCLA in Los Angeles. The match will begin at 10 p.m. Eastern time and will be televised live on the Pac-12 Network. The Terps’ first Big Ten match is Friday, Sept. 12, when it hosts fellow Big Ten newcomer Rutgers.
