Each week during the 2013-14 season a Maryland student-athlete, who has shown excellence on and off the playing field, will be selected as the Solomon Eye Associates Terp of the Week. This week's Solomon Eye Associates Terp of the Week is senior Alyssa Thomas of the Maryland women’s basketball team.

Alyssa Thomas has dominated throughout her career on the Maryland women’s basketball team, and now she has clinched her first trip to the NCAA Final Four.

The Terps have not been to the Final Four since 2006 when head coach Brenda Frese led the team to a national championship.

"Oh man, something that I've been wanting for four years, but we're not done yet," Thomas said. "We still got two more games and hopefully get this national championship."

In Maryland’s defeat of Louisville Tuesday night, Thomas posted 22 points on 8-of-13 shooting and added 13 rebounds to record her ACC-best 28th double-double of the season and 66th of her career.

Though Thomas is used to putting up stellar stat lines, it was previous game that put the Terps into the Elite Eight when she really showcased her dominance. In Maryland’s game versus Tennessee, Thomas made it clear this team was going places. She notched a career-high 33 points and added 13 rebounds. She recorded more points than Tennessee has allowed any opponent this season.

“She did just about everything she wanted to do,” Tennessee head coach Holly Warlick said.

Thomas has been showered with awards and honors in the past week, starting with ACC Player of the Year honors for the third consecutive year. She is now the second player ever to earn this honor three times.

On Wednesday, The Los Angeles Athletic Club announced Thomas to the 2014 John R. Wooden Award Women’s All American Team. Earlier in the week, Thomas was honored as First Team All-American by the Associated Press and as a USBWA All-American.

Thomas continually backs up her honors with impressive play and a vital level of leadership on the floor. Thomas and the Terps look forward to taking on Notre Dame on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN.
