COLLEGE PARK, Md. - University of Maryland senior wrestler Jimmy Sheptock has been picked to compete at the 2013 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) All-Star Classic, the association announced Friday. It will be sixth straight year a Terrapin has competed at the Classic.
Sheptock will face Penn State’s Ed Ruth in a 184-pound tilt. The Pennsylvania native completed his 2012 campaign with a 40-6 record including a flawless 21-0 dual-meet mark. Sheptock won his second straight ACC title and earned All-American status with a sixth place finish at NCAA Championships.
Ruth is a two time national champion, taking the title at 184 pounds last season with a perfect 33-0 record. The three-time All-American won a national title at 174 pounds his sophomore year and in currently on a 68-match win streak.
The bout will mark Sheptock’s first appearance at the event. Josh Asper represented the Terps last season, defeating Illinois’ Jordan Blanton at 174 pounds.
The NWCA All-Star Classic, presented by the United States Marine Corps and Balance Bar, will occur on Nov. 2 at 7:15 p.m. at the Patriot Center on the campus of George Mason University in Fairfax, VA.
