Barger Scores Twice In 3-0 Maryland Win

April 11, 2013

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Rising sophomore Riley Barger scored twice to lead the University of Maryland women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over AFC Torino USA Wednesday night at Ludwig Field.

Maryland improved to 3-0 this spring with the win over AFC Torino, which was the 2012 WPSL Eastern Conference South Champions. The Terps, who have yet to give up a goal this spring, had previously defeated Rutgers and the NWSL's Washington Spirit.

Rising sophomore Ashley Spivey scored the first goal of the evening, while Barger netted the second and third goals for the Terrapins.

"It wasn't our best team performance, however, in the end we scored three goals, pitched a shutout and earned the result," said Maryland head coach Jonathan Morgan. "So far in our first three games we've created a lot of scoring opportunities, but our efficiency in front of net has been a bit disappointing. Hopefully, we can make some improvements in this area as we head into our upcoming weekend of competition."

Maryland continues its spring schedule on Saturday, April 13 when it takes part in the Headers For Hope Spring Showcase at Howard High School in Columbia, Md. The Terps are scheduled to play William & Mary at 11 a.m. and Loyola at 4:30 p.m.

According to its website, "Headers For Hope was established in honor of every individual who has been diagnosed with cancer; every family member who has held the hand of their loved one being treated for cancer; and all friends acting as a support system to someone who has been told the news they have cancer. Unfortunately, cancer more often than not hits home, which means this foundation was established for you."
