Danielle Malagari enters her first season as a student coach with the Maryland women's soccer program after spending the pasy four years as a stand-out defender for the Terps.

Malagari started 36 of the Terrapins' 39 games during the past two seasons. A tough defender with a big left leg, Malagari was a cornerstone of a Terp defense that posted 13 shutouts in 2004 and 2005.

She is currently working to finish her degree in kinesiology. Below is a look at Malagari's playing career at Maryland.


As a senior (2005): Suffered an ankle injur in the preseason that limited her during the first week of the season ... came off the bench in the Terps' first two games to provide valuable minutes in the midfield ... assisted Nataly Arias' goal, starting the play off a free kick, in 2-1 loss in double-overtime to the No. 9 Huskies (9/2) at the Notre Dame Invitational ... one shot in 2-0 loss to Villanova (9/8) ... helped anchor the Terp defense in 1-0 shutout of Rutgers (9/11) ... one shot in 3-0 loss to No. 2 Penn State (9/16) ... one shot in 1-0 OT loss to Yale (9/18) ... two shots in 3-1 loss at No. 17 Florida State (10/6) ... missed the NC State game after getting two yellow cards in 2-0 loss at Miami (10/9) ... nearly scored on a 40-yard blast that was tipped over the crossbar in 0-0 tie vs. Virginia Tech (10/19) ... had another 40-yarder hit the crossbar in 2-0 loss at No. 8 Virginia (10/23).


As a junior (2004): Started all 20 matches ... one shot in 1-0 win at Towson (8/27) ... one shot in 1-1 tie vs. William & Mary (8/29) ... assisted Mallory Mahar's first goal in 5-2 win over South Carolina at Virginia Soccer Classic (9/10) ... feathered a shot that hit off the post on a free kick in 2-1 win over NC State (10/8) ... one shot in 3-1 win at Navy (10/19) ... one shot in 6-0 loss at No. 3 Penn State (10/27) ... one shot in 0-0 tie with NC State in the first round of the ACC Tournament (10/31) ... assisted Mallory Mahar's game-winning goal in 1-0 shutout of No. 2 seed Penn State in the second round of the NCAA Tournament ... one shot in 1-0 loss to Washington in the third round of the NCAA Tournament on Nov. 20.

As a sophomore (2003): Came off the bench in 18 of 21 games in 2003, adding offensive spark ... played 333 minutes, taking 12 shots ... saw late time in many key games down the stretch.

Summer of 2003: Spent the off-season playing with three teams ... suited up for the U-20 Baltimore Bays, where she played with Kimmy Francis ... that team advanced to the USASA regional finals ... also played with the U-23 Baltimore Bays on a team that advanced to the state finals ... closed the summer with the U-19 Parkville Pumas which reached the state finals.

As a freshman (2002): Came off bench as a midfielder in 10 of 22 games, playing 218 minutes ... assisted Melissa Anderson's late goal in win over George Washington (9/22). ... also assisted Anderson's goal vs. Fordham (8/30) for first college point.

Before Maryland: Four-year standout at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in Wheaton, Md. ... was a NSCAA All-South selection in 2001 ... named the conference's (WCAC) Player of the Year in both 1999 and 2000 ... over her four years, tallied 71 goals and 47 assists and was the school's leading scorer her final three years ... started every game of her four-year varsity career in leading Good Counsel to the WCAC championship each year ... named WCAC All-League, All-Maryland, All-County and Washington Post All-Met after her sophomore, junior and senior campaigns ... was a team captain as a junior and senior ... a member of the Maryland ODP for the last three years ... member of the U-19 Regional Pool in 2002 ... in her club action, played with Terp Ali Andrzejewski on the Bethesda Dragons and captured numerous titles, including the Disney Showcase Soccer Invitational ... earned a No. 1 national club team ranking.

Personal: Daughter of Michael and Kelly Malagari ... younger sister of Megan ... majoring in kinesiology ... aspires to follow in her father's footsteps and become a certified orthotist ... wore No. 27 because she was born on the 27th of September.
