RALEIGH, N.C. - Senior midfielder Nataly Arias scored the fifth game-winning goal of her career to propel the University of Maryland women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over NC State Sunday afternoon in Raleigh, N.C.

The Wolfpack jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute thanks to a Briana Cunningham goal. But that lead didn't last long as the Terps responded just a minute later. Senior defender Aimee Bresani tied the match with a 30-yard blast into the upper left 90.

The match remained tied at 1-1 through the remainder of the first half, but it wouldn't take Maryland long once the opening whistle of the second half was blown to take the lead.

In the 50th minute, sophomore midfielder Caitlin McDowell crossed the ball into the NC Stat box where Arias made a run and one-touched the ball into the lower right corner of the Wolfpack net.

From there the Terrapin defense made the lead hold up. Junior keeper Mary Casey needed to make only two saves in the Maryland victory.

The victory was important for the Terps because it kept their chances for an ACC Tournament bid alive. The top eight teams in the nation's toughest women's soccer conference will advance to play in the ACC Tournament, beginning on Nov. 5 at the WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C.

The Terps (6-10-1, 2-7-0 ACC) return to College Park for "Senior Night" on Thursday, Oct. 30. Maryland will play host to Clemson at 7 p.m. at Ludwig Field in the final home match for Terrapin seniors Nataly Arias, Aimee Bresani, Lauren Gamble, Stephanie MacCormack, Amanda Paizs and Kaila Sciascia.
