Poulin Nets Two Goals In 3-0 Win Over George Mason

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Junior midfielder Audra Poulin (Silver Spring, Md.) scored two goals in the first 16 minutes of the match to lift the Maryland women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over regional rival George Mason on a wet and cold Wednesday night at Ludwig Field.

The Terps used a well-balanced attack in outshooting Mason, 19-6 and holding the Patriots leading scorer Katy Robertson to just one shot. Maryland moves to 9-5 overall with their second consecutive shutout while Mason falls to 5-9.

Junior Kristen Barnhill (Charlottesville, Va.) made two saves in posting her second straight whitewash in her first two career starts.

Poulin put the Terps on the board in the eighth minute as she converted a pass from Kimmy Francis (Richboro, Pa.) with a shot from about 15 yards out into the lower right corner past keeper Naomi Hines.

Poulin then tallied her second goal for her first career two-goal game as she scored 15:35 into the match as she booted a free kick over Hines to put the Terps up 2-0. Poulin now has seven goals this season after scoring just three duirng her first two seasons at Maryland.

The Terps increased the lead to 3-0 as freshman Ali Andrzejewski (Lutherville, Md.) knocked in a rebound shot from Jen Biscoe (Baltimore, Md.) in the 78th minute. The play started with the Lindsay Givens (Downingtown, Pa.) corner kick as she was credited with an assist on the play.

The goal was Andrzejewski's seventh of the year tying Poulin for the team-lead.

For Givens the assist was the 13th of her career moving her into a tie for seventh all-time in Terp career assists. Michelle Deville (1994-97) also totaled 13 helpers. For Biscoe, the assist her her sixth of the season and 11th of her career moving her into a tie for 11th all-time in assists.

The Terps have posted a 8-0-1 record in the last nine regular-season games with the Patriots and have outscored them 20-3 in those matches.

The Terps return to action on Sunday as they travel to ACC foe Clemson (8-5-0) for a 1 p.m. match at Riggs Field.
