COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Senior forward Danielle Fotopoulos scored four goals and freshman forward Abby Wambach scored two goals and had one assist to lead No. 5 Florida past No. 20 Maryland, 7-2, in women's collegiate soccer at Ludwig Field tonight. Fotopoulos has now scored 97 goals in 73 career games. She ranks fifth all-time in NCAA Division I history.
Maryland suffered its first loss in its last six games and fell to 6-4-0. Florida improved to 9-0-0.
Fotopoulos scored the first goal of the game at the 3:39 mark and had recorded her first hat trick of the season before the first half was over. She added goals at the 14:54 and 30:34 marks. Wambach, who has scored five goals in the last two games, also scored two first half goals. The Gators held a 6-2 halftime lead.
Senior forward Emmy Harbo scored two goals for the Terps and now has 51 for her career. She scored to tie the game at 1-1 at the 9:48 mark and added her second of the game at the 40:03 mark. Harbo was setup by senior forward Keri Sarver on her first goal. It marked the 30th time in the last four years that either Harbo or Sarver had set up the other for a goal.
Maryland goalkeeper Ali Wolff, who allowed only one Gator goal in the second half, was credited with four saves. Gator goalkeeper Meredith Flaherty and Lynn Pattishall combined for four saves on the evening.
Maryland travels to James Madison for the next game Tuesday, October 6 at 6 p.m.
