HARRISONBURG, Va. - Playing with an up-tempo offensive style in the second half, Maryland's women's soccer team came back from a 1-0 deficit to defeat hosts James Madison on Tuesday night at the JMU Soccer Stadium. Junior Sara Gustafson (Reisterstown, Md.) scored both goals --on headers -- in the final 16:19 to lift the Terps (7-8-0) to the important regional victory.

Gustafson tied the game a 1-1 at the 73:41 mark in the second half as she took a pass from Kim King (Media, Pa.) and headed home the cross inside the box. She then tallied the game winner -- again on a header -- off a pass from Valerie Lawrence (Silver Spring, Md.) with just 3:44 left in regulation to give the Terps the win.

Gustafson now leads the Terps in goals (9) and points (20).

After only garnering four shots in the first half and falling behind 1-0 on a goal by Christy Metzker, 16:51 into the match, Maryland coach Shannon Higgins-Cirovski made some halftime adjustments which saw the Terps come out with an offensive punch in the second half. Maryland outshot the Dukes 11-2 in the second half and 15-5 in the game.

Senior Riki-Ann Serrins (Mission Viejo, Calif.) made two saves for the victory.

The Terps will return to action on Friday night as they host ACC foe Florida State on Friday night at Ludwig Field. The Seminoles upset No. 2 North Carolina, 3-2 in double overtime on Tuesday night.
