COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Senior forward Keri Sarver scored three goals and senior midfielder Robin McCullough scored one goal and added two assists as Maryland defeated NC State, 5-0, in women's collegiate soccer at Ludwig Field this afternoon. Sarver's three goals matched the school record for goals in a game (held by herself and four other players) and tied her career-high. It marked the third hat trick of her career.
Sarver's two goals give her 46 for her career and 121 total points. The 119 total points move her into ninth place all-time in the Atlantic Coast Conference. She passed Kelly Walbert of Duke (1992-95) who had 117 total points. Her 46 goals ranks 10th all-time in the ACC.
Maryland, which has won two consecutive games, improves to 3-3-0 and 2-1-0 in the ACC. NC State falls to 2-5-0 and 0-2-0 in the ACC.
Sarver scored two first half goals and one in the second. Her first came at the 20:34 mark and came on an assist from senior forward Emmy Harbo. It marked the 25th time in the last four years that Sarver and Harbo and teamed up to score a goal. Sarver added her second goal at the 40:11 mark and closed out the game's scoring at the 49:48 mark.
McCullough assisted on the Terps' first and fifth goals and scored the second of the game. Her two assists tied her career high. Junior midfielder Jackie Mynarski scored Maryland's first goal on an in direct free kick at the 13:37 mark of the first half.
Maryland limited NC State to three shots. Sophomore goalkeepers Riki Ann Serrins and Ali Wolff combined for the Terps' second shutout of the season.
Maryland plays host to George Mason Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
