Women's Soccer Defeats James Madison, 1-0

Harrisonburg, Va. -- Senior forward Keri Sarvers breakaway goal 7:39 into the second half lifted No. 24 Maryland to a 1-0 victory over James Madison at JMU Soccer Field here tonight. The goal marked Sarvers team leading 13th of the season and her team-leading third game-winning goal of the year.

Maryland improves to 7-4-0 with the victory while James Madison falls to 7-4-1. Maryland has won six of its last seven games.

Sarver gathered in a feed from senior defender Abby Bausman and outran the Dukes defense for a breakaway against goalkeeper Beth Manghi. She swiftly deposited the ball past Manghi for what turned out to be the game-winning goal. The assist was Bausmans career-high third of the season.

Maryland goalkeeper Riki-Ann Serrins was credited with one save as she collected her career-high tying second solo shutout of the season. Serrins has now started in goal for six of the Terps seven victories. Manghi was credited with five saves for James Madison.

Maryland plays host to No. 20 Virginia Friday night at Ludwig Field in a 7 p.m. start.
