COLLEGE PARK, MD. - An early goal for Missouri put the 16th-ranked University of Maryland women's soccer team behind for the first time this season, but the Terps scored three-straight goals to complete a come-from-behind, 3-2, victory over the Tigers Sunday afternoon at Ludwig Field.

"Missouri is a good team and this is a good win for us" said Maryland head coach Brian Pensky. "Especially considering the fashion in which it was won. We showed great character, coming from behind in the first half, and then holding them off at the end. We're very proud of our group."

Missouri, which is the two-time defending Big 12 regular season champions, jumped out to the 1-0 lead in the sixth minute of play on a 25-yard floater by Dominique Richardson that Maryland goalkeeper Yewande Balogun could do nothing about.

The Terps had a good chance to even the score in the 13th minute when Balogun sent a long free kick over the heads of the Tigers' defense. Junior Jasmyne Spencer outran the Mizzou defenders to the ball down the left side, but could not connect with anyone on her cross into the box.

Maryland finally got the equalizer in the 37th minute, converting on a corner kick. Sophomore Olivia Wagner sent a high bending ball to the far post where junior Sade Ayinde carved some space and headed the ball clean into the left side of the Tiger goal.

Balogun only made one save in the game, but it was a big one that kept the game at a 1-1 tie going into halftime. Misoouri's Sarah Thune sent a corner kick into the Terps' box and Krista Kruse managed to get on the end of it, heading the ball toward the lower right corner. But Balogun read the play perfectly and recovered in time to make a diving save.

The Terps came out strong in the second half and had a great chance to take the lead when Spencer was taken down inside the Missouri box for a penalty kick in the 47th minute. But Tiger goalkeeper Jessica Gwin guessed right on Spencer's PK chance to keep the game tied at one goal apiece.

But Gwin couldn't keep the Terps off the board for long as Maryland took the lead in the 49th minute on junior Amy O'Sullivan's first career goal. Senior co-captain Caitlin McDowell started the play with a nice ball from her left back spot to Ayinde. Ayinde then move the ball on to O'Sullivan, who finished the play with a good strike from 15 yards out.

Junior Ashley Grove scored her third goal of the season in the 71st minute to give the Terps a two-goal cushion. Sophomore Megan Gibbons earned her first collegiate assist by starting the play, sending a good outlet down the right side to senior co-captain Molly Dreska. Dreska then sent a long, cross-field ball for Grove to run onto in the left seem. Gwin tried to come out for the ball, but Grove got there first and pushed the ball around the Tiger goalkeeper. Even with the open net in front of her, Grove had some work to do, but she got off a tough shot from a low angle as two Tiger defenders were bearing down on her.

Grove goal proved to be the game winner when Mizzou pulled to within a goal in the 78th minute on Alysha Bonnick's first goal of the year.

The Terps will head out on the road for the first time this season next weekend when they travel to Knoxville, Tenn., for the First Tennesse Lady Vol Classic. Maryland will play host Tennessee on Friday at 8:00 p.m. before wrapping-up the trip with a match vs. 2009 Atlantic Sun champion Kennesaw State on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
