College Park, Md. -- Maryland's women soccer team hosted its annual Red/White scrimmage, which ended in a 1-1 tie on Saturday morning at Ludwig Field.
Senior forward Hayley Brock, a 2012 All-ACC second team selection, scored the first goal late in the first half to give the White squad a 1-0 lead. The game remained 1-0 until late in the second half, when sophomore forward Gabby Galanti connected on a goal for the Red squad to even the score at 1-1.
Maryland head coach Jonathan Morgan was extremely pleased with his team's overall performance. "Our team is pretty clean technically and we look to have good fitness as well," said Morgan. "We have to have better decision-making, but that is fairly common at this time of year."
Morgan said: "We tried an experiment with Shade as our center/back and she did a good job of communication and organizing our backfield. Lauren was a very good one-on-one defender and her ability to keep the ball and attack the third line was great. And Riley was all over the field and covered a lot of ground. She quietly was very effective."
Maryland opens its season, hosting an exhibition game against Loyola on Friday, Aug.16 at Ludwig Field at 7 p.m.
