COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland women's soccer team defeated the Washington Spirit of the NWSL, 2-0, Wednesday night in a spring match at Ludwig Field.

"We had a good performance tonight against a good Spirit team," said Maryland head coach Jonathan Morgan. "Our team's defending was solid for the most part. Even though we gave away a lot of possession in the middle third, we never allowed them to get behind us or get a clean look at the goal. On the other hand, our counterattack was incredibly dangerous and I felt we could of potentially had a couple more goals. It was a good night for our team."

The Terps took the lead early in the first half on an own goal by the Spirit.

Maryland's lead grew to 2-0 in the 68th minute when rising sophomore Alexis Prior-Brown finished an opportunity from the left side into the far side of the Washington goal.

The match was a homecoming for Terp alums Domenica Hodak, Danielle Hubka, Olivia Wagner, who are currently on the Spirit's roster.

The Terps improved to 2-0 for the spring, while the Spirit dropped the first match of its preseason schedule vs. collegiate opponents. Washington had previously defeated Penn State and North Carolina and played to a 0-0 draw with Duke.

Maryland continues its spring schedule on Saturday, April 13 when it takes part in the Headers For Hope Spring Showcase at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Germantown, Md. The Terps are scheduled to play William & Mary at 11 a.m. and Loyola at 4:30 p.m.
