COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Former University of Maryland defensive back Dexter McDougle was selected Friday by the New York Jets in the third round (80th overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft.

A two-time Academic All-ACC selection, McDougle missed the last nine games of his senior season after sustaining an injury against Connecticut. Prior to his injury, McDougle led the Terrapins with three interceptions and earned Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Back of the Week honors for his performance against the Huskies.

A respected team leader, who helped acclimate fellow teammates to the rigors of the defensive back position following his injury, McDougle received the inaugural Dexter McDougle Ultimate Team Player Award at the postseason team banquet in December.

The Falmouth, Va., native started all 12 games of his junior season, recording 71 total tackles, including a team-high 58 solo stops.  McDougle tied for the team high in interceptions (3) in his sophomore campaign and led the squad with six pass breakups.

After serving a redshirt year in 2009, McDougle played 11 games as a redshirt freshman in 2010 and finished with 22 tackles in his debut season.
