The Maryland wrestling team is ranked No. 22 in the WIN 2013-2014 Division I Preseason Power Index, which was announced Monday. The Terps also had three wrestlers recognized in the magazine’s individual rankings.
Coming off a 14-8 season, the Terrapins’ schedule contains six teams ranked in WIN’s top-25. The Terps finished last year at No. 20 in the magazine’s final poll.
Senior Jimmy Sheptock slotted in at No. 3 at 184, where he was an All-American last season. Sheptock finished last year’s campaign with a 40-6 overall record and has never lost a match in a dual meet in his Terrapin career.
At 197, senior Christian Boley is ranked No. 9. The New Yorker was a national qualifier last season and has won two straight ACC titles in his weight class.
Junior Geofrey Alexander rounded out the Terps’ appearance in the rankings. The Pennsylvania native is the 12th-ranked wrestler at 133 pounds and will try to improve on his 25-11 record from last year.
The Terrapins unofficially begin their season with the Red & Black Wrestle-Offs on Oct 27. The meet will serve as preparation for the Terrapin Duals, where the Terps will face Johns Hopkins, Alderson-Broaddus and Kutztown on Nov 3.
