BLACKBURG, Va - The No. 1 Maryland women's lacrosse team completed a perfect regular season slate with a 15-7 victory against Virginia Tech Saturday.

The Terps (17-0, 5-0 ACC) clinched sole possession of the Atlantic Coast Conference regular season crown and boast the top seed in the upcoming league championship next weekend in Chapel Hill, N.C. Maryland utilized a balanced attack that featured six Terps notching two goals.

The Terrapins started fast, scoring five unanswered goals in the first half. Freshman Halle Majorana and senior Katie Scharwzmann opened the scoring, before senior standout Alex Aust influenced the next three tallies with a goal and two assists.

After a six-minute scoring drought, the Terps ripped off four out of the final five goals of the half. Aust started the run with her second goal of the game, which doubled as the senior's 100th point of the season.

The Terp defense did not allow the Hokies to gain any traction in the second half. Senior Iliana Sanza led the Terps with three caused turnovers and senior goalie Kasey Howard notched three saves.

"Completing the regular season undefeated is a great accomplishment but it's not the end goal," head coach Cathy Reese said. "We got contributions from a lot of players today and we are really looking forward to making final preparations for the ACC championship next weekend."

Maryland - which tallied its seventh perfect regular season record in program history and first since 2009 - will compete in the semifinals of the ACC championship next Friday.
