A two-time All-American and one of three captains this year for the Terrapins, Kristin Sommar is an exceptionally talented midfield presence for the Terps. A preseason first-team All-American by College Lacrosse USA, Inside Lacrosse, and LaxPower, Sommar is a member of the U.S. Elite squad and has 67 goals and 47 assists for her career. Last season, Sommar received first-team Brine/IWLCA All-American status as well as All-ACC recognition. For her 13 goals during the NCAA Tournament, Sommar was also selected as a member of the NCAA all-tournament team, as well as the ACC all-tournament team.

As a junior in 1999: Sommar was chosen as a Brine/IWLCA first-team All-American for the second consecutive year, and scored 44 goals for the Terps during their 21-0 championship run … played in 20 of 21 games, and scored three or more goals nine times throughout the season … her career-high five goals came against Towson (4/7), with her career-high four assists at Harvard (4/11) … scored five goals in the Towson (4/7) contest, four in the North Carolina (3/7) and Old Dominion (3/27) games, and three each against Penn State (3/2), Virginia (3/16), Harvard (4/11), and Loyola (5/1) … also pitched in with three each against Penn State (5/14) and Virginia (5/16) in the semifinals and finals of the NCAA tournament … Sommar was an All-ACC pick as well as being named to the ACC and NCAA all-tournament teams.

As a sophomore in 1998: A first team All-American … an NCAA all-tournament team selection … played and started in all 21 games … the Terps' eighth-leading scorer … her 28 points rank her fifth among Terps returning to the 1998 squad … totaled a career-high 14 goals and 14 assists … scored a career-high three goals against Harvard … notched two goals against Brown in the Terps' 15-6 win … totaled one goal and one assist in each of the Terps' NCAA Final Four games ... totaled three assists against Vanderbilt … also scored goals against Duke, Syracuse, Virginia, Dartmouth, James Madison and Penn State …finished with a .519 shot percentage … forced a team-high 42 turnovers.

As a freshman in 1997: The only freshman, and one of only six collegiate players, named to the U.S. National Team … started in 19 of 22 games, and finished tied for seventh on the team in scoring, second among all freshmen, with 18 points … scored nine goals and added nine assists … a starter in all three of Maryland's NCAA tournament games … played all but six minutes during the three games, and played the entire 60 minutes in Maryland's win against Temple in the national semifinals … controlled three ground balls as the Terps defeated Loyola in the national championship game … twice totaled a then-career-high two goals against Vanderbilt and Dartmouth … added one goal against Duke in the semifinals of the ACC tournament.
