COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Alex Kahoe (Villanova, Pa.) and Chris Malone (Timonium, Md.), members of the women's and men's lacrosse teams, respectively, have been named student-athletes of the week by the Maryland Department of Athletics for the week of April 17-21.

Kahoe, the Terps' senior goalie and one of three captains, had a trio of solid outings in the No. 1 Terps' three wins last week. She received ACC Player of the Week honors on Monday, April 17 for her outstanding performances. On Saturday, Kahoe notched 11 saves against No. 20 Johns Hopkins in the Terps' 16-3 win over the Blue Jays. Additionally, she held the Blue Jays scoreless for more than 44 minutes, and the three goals allowed marked a season low for the Terps.

On Wednesday, April 13, Kahoe recorded a stunning 18 saves against No. 5 Georgetown, 11 of which were in the second half. The Terps defeated the Hoyas by a score of 16-6. Additionally, on Monday, April 11, she earned seven saves in the Terps' 18-7 win over Brown. Kahoe recorded 36 saves in the past three games, and boasts a 5.33 goals against average for the last week. On the season, Kahoe has tallied 128 saves and has a 7.72 goals against average. She was heralded as a 2000 pre-season first-team All-American by College Lacrosse USA, Inside Lacrosse and Lacrosse Power.

Malone, a junior midfielder, tied his season high last Saturday when he netted four goals and recorded one assist in the No. 7 Terps' loss to area-rival No. 8 Johns Hopkins. Malone's five points set a new personal best for the season. His feed to teammate Andrew "Buggs" Combs put the Terps on the board with 4:38 remaining in the first quarter. Malone went on to net the Terps' second goal five seconds later off Combs' assist, and he scored two more in the second quarter.

Malone has been a spark for the Terps this season. He boasts 19 goals and 25 points, both of which lead the team. He has scored in nine of the Terps' 10 games this season, and netted four goals against North Carolina in the Terps' 7-6 win on March 25. Additionally, Malone boasts a five-game scoring streak in which he has scored at least one goal each game. Malone surpassed his 1999 total of 10 goals only seven games into the season. In the pre-season, he was named an ACC Player to Watch by Face-Off Magazine '00, and was named an honorable mention All-American by College Lacrosse USA.

This marks the first time Kahoe has received student-athlete of the week honors, and it is the second time for Malone. Kahoe is majoring in criminology and criminal justice, and Malone is a general business major.
