GW Battles To 2-2 Tie with #11 Maryland

WASHINGTON DC-- Senior forward Chemar Smith (Massapequa, NY/Long Island Lutheran) scored with under nine minutes left in regulation to give the George Washington Colonials a 2-2 tie with 11th-ranked Maryland at South Riding Field on Friday. Both teams went scoreless throughout the 30 minute overtime session.

The Colonials got on the board first in the 32nd minute, after controlling play from the outset, as junior forward Jane Andersen (Huntington, NY/ Huntington) put the Colonials on the board with an unassisted score. Despite several chances, GW was unable to score again in the first half. Maryland did break through, however, as Robin McCullough scored off a direct kick in the 41rst minute.

The Terps took a 2-1 lead in the 62nd minute as Jackie Mynarski scored following Basalyga's corner kick. Maryland held the lead until the 83nd minute when Smith scoredfrom two yards out to tie the match, Senior Trcai Jenson (Lake Forest, CA/ El Toro) had nine saves for GW, 3-2-2, whil Alli Wolff saved five for the Terps, 6-1-2.
