ORLANDO, Fla. - The University of Maryland opened up the competition portion of its preseason with a road trip to Disney World in Orlando, Fla. As if it wasn't exciting enough to be hanging with Mickey, the Terps took on the U.S. National Team in an exhibition match as well. Below is a blog from the trip!

Our trip to Florida began today! Everyone was so excited to head to warmer weather after a week of snow and ice. After an early wake-up call, we got through security at BWI without any hassles and then we were on our way. When we arrived in Florida, the weather wasn't as warm as we'd hoped and there was the possibility of rain, but we didn't let that dampen our spirits...our first lacrosse games were about to begin! All of our hard work in practice was about to be tested. When we got into Orlando, we had practice at the Wide World of Sports, a huge sports complex in Disney World. There were 30 fields and an assortment of other activities going on during the weekend, including baseball and soccer tournaments and a dance competition. After practice, we cleaned up and ate dinner at the Wide World of Sports Café. It was nice to take a break from our busy schedule and hang out with our teammates. After dinner, at 7 p.m., we watched the US Elite vs. US Developmental game. It was fun to see Caitlin, Quinn and Becky in action, as well as our friends from other teams. The level of play displayed by the players on both teams was exceptional. Everyone was excited to watch such a high level of lacrosse...and of course we had to scout the players for Sunday. Afterwards, we returned to the hotel and went to sleep right away... We had to be well rested for Disney World tomorrow!

Our second day in Florida started off with another trip back to the Wide World of Sports for practice in the morning. It was surprisingly a little chilly when we got out on the fields, but compared the snowy landscape we left in Maryland, everyone was excited to be out playing lacrosse in the sunshine in our t-shirts and shorts. After we soaked up the sun for a few hours at practice, the team couldn't wait for our next activity of the day- Disney World! It is safe to say that getting the chance to visit the parks was one of the highlights of the trip. Our coaches gave us the choice of spending the day at Hollywood Studios or Magic Kingdom. Most of the Terps chose to go to Hollywood Studios because of the exciting rides and attractions. It was the thrill rides like Tower of Terror and Rockin' Rollercoaster which were the unanimous favorites of the day. Another favorite was the American Idol Experience, where we were part of a live audition show of real contestants and some of us even got on camera!
While some of the team spent the day at Hollywood Studios, others chose to visit Magic Kingdom and get the real Disney experience. At Magic Kingdom they spent the day with the Reese family and got to witness Riley and Brody meet their idol- Buzz Lightyear! At the end of the day, we all boarded the bus with souvenirs galore and Mickey Mouse ears. Although we were a bit tired from enjoying the park, it was definitely a day to remember!

On the third and final day we arrived to the Disney Wide World of Sports to play the US Elite team at 8:45 then US developmental to follow at 12. We could not wait to get on the field and play. The US Elite game brought a lot of excitement because it gave us the chance to come out and show the top team in the country what the 2009 Terps team had to offer. We had great opportunities to execute our offense and towards the end of the game we came together as a strong unit. Without taking much of break, we started out in the Developmental game right where we had left off, notching in a few quick goals and really catching the developmental team off guard. It was a hard fought game and it was the perfect way to start off our season as the 2009 Terps. We have a lot to look forward to this season and we are prepared to work hard every day to have a successful 2009 season.
