Maryland defeated Towson, 13-5, on April 2, 1997. Senior Sarah Forbes scored five goals while junior Cathy Nelson and senior Dana Gwaltney added two goals apiece.

THE LAST TIME VS. BROWN
Senior Sarah Forbes and junior Cathy Nelson each scored a hat trick while senior Ginette Chelius, junior Sascha Newmarch and freshman Christie Jenkins added two apiece.

MARCHIN' UP
Senior midfielder Sascha Newmarch scored a career-high five goals against Old Dominion to extend her career-goal total to 123. The two-time All-America's 123 career goals place her ninth on the school's all-time list.

Senior attack Cathy Nelson has notched 64 career assists in her 68-game career, and is now in fifth place in the Maryland career record book. Nelson has twice scored a season-high three assists, versus Syracuse and Old Dominion.

Sophomore goalie Alex Kahoe, the 1997 ACC co-Rookie and Goalkeeper of the Year, has started in all 10 of Maryland's games. She has allowed 63 goals in 572 minutes played (.650 save percentage) and is allowing 6.61 goals a game. She has posted double-figure saves in seven of the Terps' ten games, including a career-high 19 saves versus Virginia on March 22.

THE AUSTRALIAN CONNECTION
Maryland's Australian duo of Sascha Newmarch and Jen Adams have combined for 34 goals and 27 assists, and rank as the Terps' top and fourth-leading scorers, respectively, this season. Newmarch scored a career-high five goals against Old Dominion on March 28. She has scored two hat tricks so far this season (vs. Syracuse and Harvard) while Adams scored a career-high four goals in the Terps' 21-7 win over Syracuse on March 14.

AWAKEN THE SLEEPING GIANT
Maryland's season-opening lacrosse losses to Duke and North Carolina apparently did nothing more than awaken a sleeping giant. Maryland followed its opening two losses with seven straight victories at home, and Saturday's win against James Madison was its first on the road this season.

UPSETTING THE RANKS
Five of the last eight Maryland wins have come against ranked teams--No. 3 Virginia (11-8); No. 12 Dartmouth (16-7); No. 15 Old Dominion (18-1); No. 7 Temple (11-5); and No. 8 James Madison (14-11). The Terps' 14-11 victory over James Madison snapped the Dukes' four-game winning streak, including a 12-10 victory at No. 10 William & Mary (William & Mary defeated then-No. 1-ranked North Carolina and then-No. 3-ranked Duke this past weekend).

.920 Maryland's winning percentage during the decade of the 90s. The Terps have a record of 115-10 since the beginning of the 1990 season, and are the only team in Division I women's lacrosse to have won at least 90 percent of its games.

This year's freshman class has scored 43 of Maryland's 135 goals to date which accounts for 32 percent of goals scored. They have accounted for 37 percent of Maryland's 201 points. Led by Meredith Egan, four freshmen are ranked in the top eight on the Maryland scoring chart. Egan has scored 19 points which is third on the chart, while Jen Adams and Quinn Carney are fifth with 18 points. Allison Comito has scored 13 points which ties her for eighth. Carney is also third on the team in goals with 15.

THE TERPS WIN GAMES BY PLAYING DEFENSE
The Maryland defense is allowing its opponents a stingy 8.6 goals per game, the fourth-best scoring defense in the country. Maryland has held seven of its 10 opponents to under 10 goals. The Terps held the high-powered attack of Temple (which is ranked No. 2 in the country in scoring offense) to a mere five goals. The Owls average 15.43 goals per game.
