Merrifield Tabbed ACC Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week

April 7, 2009

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Maryland's Laura Merrifield has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, April 5. Merrifield led the No. 2 Terrapins to a perfect 2-0 week, including wins over No. 14 Ohio State and No. 18 Penn State in the 2009 ACC/ALC Challenge.

The sophomore from Hertfordshire, England, erupted for a career-high eight goals as Maryland upended Penn State, 20-12 in the opener of the 2009 ACC/ALC Challenge in Columbus last week. Merrifields' tally of eight was one-shy of the Terps' single game record, while she added one draw control and one caused turnover against the Nittany Lions.

The midfielder scored two goals against Ohio State on Sunday as Maryland moved to 13-0 on the year following a tight 17-16 victory. Merrifield added three draw controls as the Terps remain undefeated heading into next weekend's ACC showdown against North Carolina in College Park.

The Terps will play host to North Carolina on Saturday at 12 noon in their next outing.
