Terrapin Women's Lacrosse Signs Three For 2001 Season

Nov. 18, 1999

College Park, Md.- - The defending national champion Maryland women's lacrosse team announced the signing of three seniors who will join the Terrapins for the 2001 season. Annie Collins (Ellicott City, Md.), Kelly Coppedge (Annapolis, Md.), and Mary Lambert (Brightwaters, N.Y.) have all signed National Letters of Intent to play women's lacrosse for the University of Maryland.

Collins was instrumental in leading Mt. Hebron to the state championship last year, while Coppedge is one of the top players coming out of the state of Maryland from a well-respected St. Mary's High program. A tremendous athlete, Lambert is one of the best recruits coming out of Long Island and attends Bayshore High School.

"All three are looking to be impact players for next year," said head coach Cindy Timchal, who will begin her 10th season with the Terps this spring. "We're just so excited that they've made the decision to come to Maryland."

Coming off a 21-0 season, the Terrapins have won eight national championships, including their record fifth consecutive in 1999. Six of the eight national championships have come under Timchal in just the past eight years alone. The Terps have played in the final game every year but one since her arrival in 1991. Maryland begins its title defense on March 3, 2000 at 7 p.m. at Duke.
