The good news keeps pouring in for the Maryland women's lacrosse team as it woke up this morning to find out it had been ranked No. 1 in the deBeer/Inside Lacrosse Women's Media Poll.
The Terps (16-1) are fresh off their second-straight Atlantic Coast Conference Championship title after downing top-ranked North Carolina, 10-5, Sunday afternoon. This is the first time Maryland has garnered the top spot in the rankings since March 31, 2003. That season, the Terps were the No. 1 team in the land for the majority of the year before late-season losses to James Madison and Princeton shoved Maryland downwards in the poll.
Maryland is the third team to be ranked No. 1 this season as defending NCAA champion Northwestern and North Carolina have also both held the prestigious spot.
The Terps play host to two more regular-season games before learning its NCAA Tournament destiny. No. 1 Maryland welcomes UMass Saturday at noon at Ludwig Field in its next outing.
