Women's Lax: Kirah Miles Q & A

March 17, 2005

Terps Today (TT): What is the toughest part of your position?
Kirah Miles (KM): Being mentally tough - concentrating on where the ball is at all times no matter what else is going on. No matter how many times the ball goes into the net or how well I'm playing I have to keep telling myself that I can do it, that I can play and that I need to be the best that I can be at all times.

TT: When did you first get started as a goalie?
KM: In seventh grade because one of my coaches stuck the non-athletic people in goal. I got kind of frustrated with it, so my friend who went to William & Mary had played goalie for a little bit helped me.

TT: What's the best thing about playing on this team?
KM: The team chemistry more than anything. You know that whoever is out there on the field with you that they want you to do their best and that they are going to do whatever they can to make you look good.

TT: What's one bad habit you have?
KM: I am obsessed with the Internet. Whenever I have free time I just look up random facts.

TT: What's the best summer you've ever had?
KM: It was the summer after my freshman year here when Jessica Dorney, Acacia Walker, Meredith O'Brien and Megan Sommar went to my house in Spain for two weeks. We just had fun, laid out in the sun and do what girls do.

TT: What's your favorite Saturday Night Live skit?
KM: The Spartan cheerleaders.

TT: What's your favorite moment on reality television?
KM: On Fear Factor, watching Omarosa have to sift through all of these worms and things. She wasn't going to do the stunt but since Trista ate a can of worms she had to. It was great seeing her have to go through all of that stuff because she's such a brat.

TT: What's your favorite Cindy Timchal moment?
KM: My freshman year when we were going up to Cornell and she told us to tell our friends, family and loved ones that there might not be enough room in the hotel and they might have to sleep in their cars. And that if you don't have enough room in your bag, send your Under Armour to yourself in a manila envelope.

TT: What's one hidden talent you have?
KM: I'm really good at swimming like a dolphin.

TT: What was your favorite Halloween costume as a kid?
KM: I told my mom and my brother that I wanted to be a bartender, and they thought I meant in real life so they got mad at me and started yelling at me. But then I told them just for Halloween, and I was such a good bartender - I had a tray with glasses and candy cigarettes and a side pony tail.
