GREENSBORO, N.C. - Brittany Poist was tabbed Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the period ending Monday, Feb. 20, the league announced Tuesday.
Poist was instrumental in Maryland's defensive success last week as the Terrapins allowed only nine goals in two wins.
The senior from Hampstead, Md., helped a lock-down defense which granted No. 16 Penn State only two goals. It marked just the first time Maryland has held a foe under three goals since 2003. Poist also assisted Maryland in shutting out the Nittany Lions for nearly 51 minutes to cap Sunday's home opener.
A key factor in Maryland's ability to clear the ball, Poist also netted her first career goal against Penn State and added three draw controls on the week.
No. 1 Maryland battles No. 3 Duke at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex Saturday at noon.
