Charlottesville, Va. -- The IWLCA Poll Committe has released the preseason ranking for the NCAA Division I lacrosse field for 1998. Rankings will be released weekly on Monday afternoons.

The Maryland Terrapins, the three-time defending NCAA champion, are at the top of the preseason poll for 1998. The Terrapins were a unanimous top choice.

The preseason IWLCA poll is as follows (with 1997 records, poll points, and first place votes).

Also receiving votes:  Old Dominion, Delaware, Towson, Harvard, Vanderbilt

Maryland opens up this week against No. 14 Duke in Durham on Friday at 7 p.m. and then faces No. 2 North Carolina at 1 p.m. on Sunday in Chapel Hill.
