April 14, 2010

PRINCETON, N.J. - Sophomore Karri Ellen Johnson erupted for six goals as No. 2 Maryland downed Ivy League-power Princeton, 13-6, Wednesday night.

The Annapolis, Md., native matched her career-high with six goals against the Tigers while adding an assist to lift Maryland to 13-1 overall. Fellow Tewaaraton nominee Sarah Mollison added six points on three goals and three assists.

Maryland never trailed in the match after Johnson scored the first goal of the game at 22:02 and added two more to pad the Terrapin lead to 4-1 with 17 minutes remaining in the half. Princeton tacked on two scores to cut Maryland's lead to one at 13:14 but goals by Laura Merrifield and Mollison provided the Terps with a comfortable 6-3 advantage at the half.

The Terps took that lead and ran with it in the second stanza, beginning with a massive 4-0 run courtesy of goals from Mollison, Caitlyn McFadden, Kate Faas and Johnson. Following three unanswered goals from the Tigers, Maryland capped the match with three more goals for the win.

Brittany Dipper picked up the win in the cage while making seven saves. The Terp defense held its opponent to single-digit goals for the 11th time in 2010.

Maryland is now 23-7 against the Tigers while Reese inches closer to career win number 100, picking up her 99th at Princeton Wednesday. Reese and the Terps will look to pick up that milestone and remain in the hunt for the ACC regular season championship Saturday when they play host to Virginia Tech at Ludwig Field. First draw is at noon.

A tape delay broadcast of Wednesday night's match will be available several times next week to Verizon Fios subscribers in the Washington D.C./Northern Virginia area. For complete listing information, please log on to
