Season Preview : Goalies

Feb. 14, 2010

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Leading up to No. 2 Maryland's opener Sunday against Richmond, will preview the Terps' highly-anticipated 2010 season. Today's preview will take a look at Maryland's youth-laden goalie crew.

Head coach Cathy Reese has a youth-laden crew sealing up the cage this season, led by returning sophomores Brittany Dipper and Mary Jordan.

"We have three talented, young goalies," Reese said. "Everyone is making a case for themselves."

Dipper boasts the most experience from the trio, having started in 19 of 22 matches she appeared in as a rookie in 2009. She led Maryland in saves (109) and wins (16) and double-digit saves on three different occasions. She garnered ACC All-Tournament honors after racking up 22 saves in Maryland's two wins against Virginia and Duke to scoop up the title.

"Brittany is a very athlete goalie," Reese said. "She gained a ton of experience last season and we are looking forward to see her develop even further this season."

Jordan split time with her freshman counterpart in the beginning of the 2009 season, starting against Richmond and notching minutes in ten games. She tallied 15 saves on the year and was the goalie of record in Maryland's wins against Richmond, UMass and Ohio State.

"Mary is a solid goalie with a great attitude," Reese said. "She is quick and communicates well."

Joining the sophomore goalie tandem is freshman Kasey Howard. She was second team all-county and also lead Anne Arundel County in save percentage her final two years at Broadneck.

"Kasey has gotten off to a great start and will learn a lot from Mary and Brittany," Reese said. "She has quick hands and plays big in the cage."
