BALTIMORE, Md. - Five Maryland Terrapin women's lacrosse alumni have been officially named to the 16-member United States World Cup team that will compete later this month in Annapolis. Quinn Carney, Randall Goldsborough, Kelly Amonte Hiller, Kristin Sommar and Jess Wilk were all named to the squad.
Acacia Walker was named as an alternate for the squad.
The 2005 IFWLA World Cup, featuring a record 10 countries, will be hosted by US Lacrosse from June 23 to July 2 at the United States Naval Academy. The Terrapin women's lacrosse program is also expected to be well represented on the Australia squad.
The roster was selected by head coach Sue Stahl and her staff and includes 12 players with previous World Cup experience. Wilk is one of three players to be making her third World Cup appearance.
The U.S. has won four straight World Cup championships and five of the six championships played all-time. This is only the second time the event has been played in the U.S., and the first since 1986. The U.S. is attempting to become the first host nation to win the World Cup. Complete information on the World Cup can be found at www.uslacrosse.org/worldcup.
