COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Jen Adams (Marino, Australia) and John Carr (Washington, D.C.), members of the women's lacrosse team and men's track team, respectively, have been named student-athletes of the week by the Maryland Department of Athletics for the week of April 3-7.
Adams, a junior, tied two school records last week as she led the No.1 Terps with 19 points in the last two games. Her 11-point performance against Harvard on March 30 tied the school record for points in a game. She netted five goals and recorded six assists to lead the team in both categories. Adams' six assists also tied a school record, which she shares with Terps' assistant coach Sarah Forbes, among three others.
Two days later, she scored five goals and notched three assists against James Madison. Currently, Adams leads the nation in goals, with 41, and points, with 68. She has scored at least one goal in her last 21 games, and boasts a 41-game streak in which she has recorded at least one point. Additionally Adams has led the Terps in scoring eight times this season.
Carr, one of four seniors on the track team, took first in the 100 meters last weekend to lead the men's team to a fourth place showing in its first home meet of the season. At the Maryland Invitational, he won the 100 with a time of 10.67 seconds, which marked a career best. Carr also took fifth in the 200 meters with a time of 22.11 seconds.
He has been one of the most consistent performers for the team this season. Two weeks ago at the Ram Invitational, Carr turned in another strong performance. He won the 200 meters with a time of 22.21 seconds and his time of 51.40 earned him a sixth-place finish in the 400 meters.
This marks the second time Adams has been named student-athlete of the week, and the first time for Carr. Adams is majoring in communications, and Carr is a criminal justice major.
