May 26, 1998

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Maryland senior Sascha Newmarch, a member of the 1998 national champion women's lacrosse team, was one of 10 athletes from 14 schools to be named to the 1998 GTE Academic All-America University Division Women's District II Spring At-Large team. The 10-member first team was selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Newmarch, a four-time national champion, most recently was named first team All-American and was also selected to the NCAA all-tournament team. She led the Terps in scoring this year with 48 goals and 42 assists. A first team All-ACC selection, Newmarch leaves Maryland ranked in the all-time top 10 career record book in goals, assists and points.

Newmarch owns a 3.51 GPA in marketing and automatically qualifies for the national ballot.
