COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Eight Maryland Terrapins, including senior Acacia Walker, have been selected for the 24-member US World Cup training team.
The U.S. roster was paired down from 34 after a final tryout Jan. 22-23 in Orlando, Fla. The 24-member World Cup Training Team will train together until after the US Lacrosse Women's Division National Tournament held on Memorial Day weekend in Lehigh, Pa., when the roster will be cut to the IFWLA-mandated 16 players.
Joining Walker on the US squad are Quinn Carney (2001), Randall Goldsborough (1996), Kelly Amonte Hiller (Maryland 1996), Alex Kahoe (2000), Christie (Jenkins) Kemezis (2000), Kristin Sommar (2000) and Jess Wilk (1990).
Six Terps, including volunteer assistant Sonia Judd (2003), are on the Australian World Cup squad. The other alumni making up the 16-member squad are Jen Adams (2001), Sarah Forbes (1997), Courtney Hobbs (2002), Tess McLeod (2003) and Sasha Newmarch (1998). Incoming freshman Casey Magor is an alternate for the squad.
Laura Warren, who will exhaust her last year of eligibility this spring with the Terps, will represent the Wales at the World Cup. She played with that team in 2001.
