GREENSBORO, N.C. - Maryland swept the league weekly awards Tuesday as Karri Ellen Johnson and Katie Schwarzmann were tabbed Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively.
Johnson scored five goals and added an assist to lead No. 1 Maryland to its' first ACC win this season against No. 3 Duke, 18-11. The junior moved into sixth all-time in career goals at Maryland with 160. In addition to aiding the Terps offensively, Johnson also notched three ground balls, two draw controls and two caused turnovers as the Terps won their fourth-straight against the Blue Devils. She has now tallied at least one point in 49 consecutive games, every one she has suited up in at Maryland.
Schwarzmann coupled her third five-goal performance this season with a phenomenal defensive effort against Duke. The sophomore, who leads the Terps offensively with 18 goals this season, was steady on the defensive end of the field, racking up a game-high five ground balls, three draw controls and two caused turnovers as Maryland won its 14 consecutive game. Schwarzmann helped hold a Duke attack that was averaging over 18 goals per game heading into Saturday's ACC showdown to only 11.
The top-ranked Terps head to Charlottesville for an ACC battle at Virginia Friday.
