May 18, 2001

BALTIMORE, Md. - The top-seeded University of Maryland women's lacrosse team holds a 6-3 halftime lead over No. 5 Princeton in the national semifinal at Johns Hopkins University.

After over ten minutes of scoreless lacrosse, Princeton was the first to get on the board as Charlotte Kenworthy found the back of the net at 19:04. The Terrapins controlled the ensuing draw, and freshman Kelly Coppedge broke down the field for the tying score less than 20 seconds later. Maryland increased its lead to 2-1 at 11:11 when senior Allison Comito found Coppege in front of the cage for a one-timer, but the Tigers knotted the contest at 2-2 when Whitney Miller rifled one in at 8:33.

Following a Terp timeout, the six-time reigning national champions once again took a lead. Junior Courtney Hobbs fired a free position shot into the cage at 7:23 to put the Terps up 3-2. Maryland increased its advantage on Hobbs' second-consecutive goal as she bounced a Qunn Carney toss past the Tigers' keeper with 3:55 remaining, but Princeton's Lauren Simone answered with a free position shot to make it 4-3 at 1:46.

A two-goal Terp flurry with less than 20 seconds remaining gave the Terrapins the 6-3 lead. Senior Jen Adams lofted a long pass to Copedge for her third goal of the game at 0:17, before Hobbs found Adams close the cage on a free position attempt with six seconds on the clock for the three-score advantage.
