COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Cindy Timchal, the all-time winningest coach in Division I history in women's lacrosse, was inducted into the Potomac Chapter of the US Lacrosse Hall of Fame last Sunday. Timchal was one of six honorees. The hall of fame recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to promote the growth and excellence of lacrosse in the greater Washington, D.C., metropolitan area.
Timchal was inducted into West Chester University's Hall of Fame in February 2004.
Timchal has guided the Terrapins to eight national titles, and has twice been named national coach of the year. She has coached 42 to players to more than 70 All-America honors, and has coached 12 players to national player of the year recognition.
The Terps open the 2006 season this weekend with defending NCAA champion Northwestern, who is coached by Terp alum Kelly Amonte Hiller.
