ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Led by eight current or former Maryland Terrapins, the Australians defeated the United States, 14-7, to win the IFWLA World Cup in Annapolis. In the finals, Jen Adams led all scorers with four goals and three assists and Sarah Forbes added a hat trick and three assists to help the Aussies to just their second World Cup in history.
The Americans were led by Terp alum Quinn Carney's team-high three points.
In addition, an astonishing seven Terps were named to the 12-member All-World team. Adams, Carney, Kelly Amonte Hiller, Sonia Judd, Sarah Forbes, Laura Warren and Jess Wilk were all recognized for their performances over the past two weeks.
Of the 20 games played at the World Cup in which a Maryland Terrapin was on the roster, a Terp player was recognized as "Player of the Match" nine times. Forbes was named the tournament's "Most Valuable Player" for her efforts for the Aussies.
Adams was the leading scorer among all players at the World Cup with 47 points on 21 goals and 26 assists. Her 26 assists set a new World Cup record.
