Women's Lacrosse Announces 2005 Schedule

Dec. 2, 2004

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland women's lacrosse coach Cindy Timchal has released the Terps' 2005 schedule. The 10-time national champions will face seven teams that participated in the 2004 NCAA Tournament, including national champion Virginia and runner-up Princeton.

In addition, the Terps will serve as host school for this year's ACC Tournament held at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore from April 28-May 1. The Terps open the season at home with an ACC matchup against Duke on Feb. 26 at 1 p.m. The Terps will then have a three-game road swing, capped by a Mar. 8 meeting with defending national champion Virginia in Charlottesville.

Maryland will return home for dates against Brown and Denver, with the Pioneers being coached by former Terp standouts Cathy Nelson-Reese and Jen Adams. The Terps will then play their next six games away from College Park, highlighted by the annual ACC/Big 10 Challenge being held this year on the campus of Navy. There the Terps will take on Penn State and Ohio State. Maryland will then face ACC newcomer Virginia Tech before traveling to Washington, D.C. for a NCAA Tournament re-match with Georgetown on Tuesday, April 5 at 3 p.m.

The Terps will then play host to Johns Hopkins, a team that went 12-4 in 2004, on Saturday, April 9 at 1 p.m., before wrapping up the ACC regular season slate at North Carolina. Maryland will then face Syracuse on Sunday, April 24, at 1 p.m. before opening play at the ACC Tournament.

Maryland wraps up the regular season with two tough home games against NCAA runner-up Princeton on Wednesday, May 4, at 7 p.m. and against Loyola on Saturday, May 7, at 1 p.m.

After two rounds of NCAA Tournament play at campus sites, the national finals and semifinals will be held at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium on the campus of Navy in Annapolis, Md.

"We feel that a challenging schedule prepares us well for the tournaments at the end of the season, and I think we have put together a schedule that will test us," head coach Cindy Timchal said. "There are a lot of good teams out there, so it should make for an exciting year.

"We are also excited to have the ACC Tournament in Baltimore this year and we know that the people in the area will appreciate the high level of lacrosse that will be on display that weekend."
