No. 7 Maryland Returns To ACC Play Friday Night vs. Virginia Tech

    COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The seventh-ranked Maryland Terrapin women's lacrosse team, in the midst of a five-game winning streak, returns to ACC play this Friday night against Virginia Tech. The first draw from the Lacrosse & Field Hockey Complex is at 7 p.m.

    The Terps enter Friday's game with a record of 8-3, but are 0-2 in ACC play. Virginia Tech comes into the game with a 6-4 overall record, and is also winless in two ACC contests.

    Maryland has won both meetings against Virginia Tech. Last season, the first in the ACC for the Hokies, the Terps came away with a 14-7 win in Blacksburg. Katie Doolittle led the way with five goals and an assist in the Terrapin victory.

    A Glance Ahead: Maryland will play its final home game of the year on Wednesday, April 5, at 7 p.m. against Georgetown.

    Cox ACC Player Of The Week
    • Maryland's Delia Cox was tabbed Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week on Monday after leading the Terrapins to a 3-0 week including wins over a pair of ranked opponents.
    • Cox started the week with a game-high, four-point performance in the Terrapins' 13-8 win over No. 9 Dartmouth. Against 16th-ranked Penn State, Cox tied a league season-high with eight points on five goals and three assists. In Maryland's 17-8 win over Ohio State, Cox tied a game-high with five points on three goals and two assists.
    • The weekly honor was the fourth of her career. She has been recognized once each year of her career.

    Terp Tidbits
    • Maryland's five-game winning streak is the longest since 2004 (the Terps won 10-straight that season).
    • The Terps have scored 86 goals over the last five games (17.20 per game). During that time, Maryland has only allowed 35 goals (7.00 per game).
    • The Terps are 1-2 this season against UM alums. Virginia Tech is coached by Tami Riley (Maryland, 1996).
    Delia Cox has scored three goals or more goals in the last nine games. She has scored at least three goals in 10 out of 11 games this year. Cox leads the ACC in goals per game (3.18).
    Allie Buote is just 12 saves shy of 100 on the season.
    Krista Pellizzi had 34 career points (23g, 11a) in two seasons as a Terrapin. This season she has 39 points (24g, 15a).
    • The Terps have five players with 20 or more points. Four players have double-digit assists on the year.
    Kelly Kasper has proven she can make plays all over the field for the Terps. She is among the top three on the team in six different statisical categories (goals, assists, points, draw controls, groundballs and caused turnovers). She is second in the ACC in caused turnovers per game (2.14).

    The Week That Was
    • The Terps went 3-0 last week, including a pair of victories over a ranked opponents.
    • Against Dartmouth, Maryland erased an early 5-1 deficit to knock off the ninth-ranked Big Green. Delia Cox scored three goals and added an assist to help lead the Terrapins past their first ranked opponent of the season. After giving up five quick goals in the first seven minutes of the game, the Maryland defense allowed just three scores over the final 53 minutes of action.
    Delia Cox (5g, 3a) had a part in half of Maryland's 16 goals as the fourth-ranked Terrapins rolled past No. 16 Penn State, 16-7. Krista Pellizzi added two assists to go with a hat trick, and Katie Doolittle poured in four goals to help lead the offense.
    • In the final game of the week vs. Ohio State, Katie Doolittle had a hat trick before the game was even five minutes old and finished with four goals and an assist. Delia Cox scored three goals and two assists, Kelly Kasper added a pair of goals and three assists and Katie Princiotto came off the bench to net four scores for the Terps. Lauren Cohen forced a game-high four turnovers, and Megan Cassara added two to help lead the Terrapins on defense.

    That Thing You Doo

    • Junior Katie Doolittle has found her scoring touch in the last four games.
    • In the last four games, she has 14 goals and one assist.
    • In three of the last four games, she has at least four goals.
    • Through the first seven games of the season, she had just seven goals and one assist.

    Scoring Streaks
    • With goals in her first seven games, Delia Cox has scored a goal in her last 29 games (dating back to last season.)
    • In addition to the 29-game scoring streak, Delia Cox has also started every game Maryland has played during her career, a streak of 72 consecutive starts.
    • Cox has scored 153 goals in her career, and she now needs just six more goals to crack Maryland's top six in that category.

    Scouting The Hokies
    • Virginia Tech enters Friday's game with a record of 6-4 (0-2 ACC). In their most recent outing, the Hokies rolled past Delaware, 23-8.
    • Much like the Terrapins, Virginia Tech brings a balanced attack on offense. Six different players have at least 17 points on the season. Lindsay Pieper leads the way with a team-high 25 goals and five assists. Stephanie Jones is second on the team with 22 goals. Kady McBrearty leads the Hokies with 13 assists on the year, and also has 12 goals. The 2005 ACC Rookie of the Year, Natasha Fuchs, has 13 goals and four assists. She leads the team in draw controls, groundballs and caused turnovers.
    • Virginia Tech has used three players this year between the pipes, with Carrie Hill seeing the majority of the action this year. Hill has made 106 saves on the year and has a goals-against average of 10.59. Caitlin Thomas has played in six games for the Hokies, and Megan Waters has seen action in one.
    • Maryland and Virginia Tech have faced three common opponents so far this season in George Mason, Ohio State and Duke. The Terps are 2-1 in those games, while the Hokies are 1-2 in thoe contests.
