UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Katie Schwarzmann scored a career-high six goals as No. 2 Maryland picked up its first road victory 16-6 at No. 17 Penn State Sunday afternoon.

Schwarzmann scored five of her six goals in the first half and also racked up a game-high six groundballs. Karri Ellen Johnson and Brooke Griffin also tallied two goals each as Maryland (3-0) won its third consecutive game by 10 or more goals. Griffin added five groundballs and Iliana Sanza had a team-high four draw controls.

Maryland capped the first half on a 5-1 run to close the period with a seven-goal cushion. The Terps outscored Penn State 6-3 despite both squads recording 12 shots in the second half.

Brittany Dipper tallied eight saves in her first complete game of the season in the cage.

"Overall we played well against a strong Penn State team," head coach Cathy Reese said. "We got off to a good start and we had a few lulls where we were a little hesitant but we had a very balanced attack again with eight players scoring goals. Katie (Schwarzmann) had a big day for us and I thought Illiana (Sanza) also had a great performance defensively."

The Terps travel to No. 5 Duke for its first conference test of the 2012 campaign next Saturday.
