COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Three Maryland Terrapins were named preseason All-Americans by Inside Lacrosse, including first team selection Delia Cox. Defender Greta Sommers and midfielder Acacia Walker were named to the second team by the publication.
Cox, a junior, followed her freshman season in which she was named "Rookie of the Year" by Inside Lacrosse with a 47-goal, six-assist season as a sophomore. She was named a first team All-America selection by Inside Lacrosse and was a second team IWLCA/US Lacrosse pick.
Sommers, a third team IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-American a season ago, returns for her senior campaign as one of the top defenders in the country. She helped anchor one of the nation's strongest defenses last season, allowing just 7.90 goals per game (fifth-lowest in the country).
Walker, who was recently selected as a member of the US World Cup training team, is one of the top all-around players in the country. She has started every game in her career at Maryland, and has 73 goals and 70 assists in three seasons. She also has controlled 130 draws for the Terps and will likely become Maryland's all-time leader in that category in 2005.
The Terps open the regular season on Feb. 26 against ACC rival Duke at noon.
